この問題では、次の2つに答える必要があります。

IELTS Task 2のTwo-part Questionとは？

Two-part Questionとは、問題文の中に2つの質問があるTask 2の問題タイプです。

よくある設問パターン

Two-part Questionでは、次のような設問がよく出ます。

Why is this happening?

Is this a positive or negative development?

What are the reasons for this?

Do you think this is a positive or negative trend?

Why do some people think this?

Do you agree or disagree?

What are the causes of this?

What effects does this have on society?

このタイプでは、質問が2つあるため、どちらか一方だけに答えると不十分になります。

たとえば、

Is this a positive or negative development?

と聞かれているのに、理由だけを詳しく書いて、positive / negativeの判断を書かないと、設問への答えが不足します。

Two-part Questionで最初に確認すること

Two-part Questionを見たら、まず問題文を2つの質問に分解します。

たとえば、

なら、次のように分けます。

質問1：

なぜ起きているのか

質問2：

それはpositiveかnegativeか

この作業を最初にするだけで、答え漏れをかなり防ぎやすくなります。

Two-part Questionの基本構成

Two-part Questionは、4段落構成で書くと分かりやすいです。

Introduction

Body Paragraph 1：質問1への答え

Body Paragraph 2：質問2への答え

Conclusion

この構成にすると、2つの質問に答え漏れしにくくなります。

Introduction

Introductionでは、問題文の内容を言い換え、2つの質問に対する答えの方向性を示します。

このIntroductionでは、次の2つに触れています。

• positive or negativeか：generally a positive development

Two-part Questionでは、Introductionの時点で2つの答えの方向性を示しておくと、文章全体が分かりやすくなります。

Body Paragraph 1：質問1に答える

Body Paragraph 1では、1つ目の質問に答えます。

今回の例では、

Why is this happening?

に答えます。

One reason why more people are living alone is that individuals have become more financially independent. In the past, many people lived with their families because it was difficult to pay for housing and daily expenses alone. Today, however, more people, especially in urban areas, have jobs that allow them to support themselves. Body Paragraph 1では、質問1だけに集中すると書きやすいです。

よくある形です。

このタイプでは、Body Paragraph 1でbenefits、Body Paragraph 2でproblemsを書きます。

Advantages and Disadvantages型に近いですが、問題文の表現に合わせて答えることが大切です。

Two-part Questionで使いやすい表現

Two-part Questionでは、質問1と質問2を分けて書くための表現を覚えておくと便利です。

原因・理由を示す表現

Two-part Questionでよくあるミス

Two-part Questionでは、次のようなミスがよくあります。

片方の質問にしか答えていない

一番多いミスは、2つの質問のうち片方にしか答えないことです。

問題

悪い回答

This is happening because people have become more independent and social values have changed.

この文は「なぜ起きているか」には答えています。

しかし、positive / negativeの判断がありません。

改善例

This is happening because people have become more independent and social values have changed. I believe it is generally positive because it gives individuals more freedom and responsibility.

2つの質問に両方答えましょう。

2つの質問が混ざっている

Body Paragraphの中で、質問1と質問2の答えが混ざることがあります。

悪い構成

Body 1：理由とpositive / negativeが混ざる

Body 2：また理由とpositive / negativeが混ざる

改善構成

Body 1：質問1への答え

Body 2：質問2への答え

Two-part Questionでは、質問ごとに段落を分けると分かりやすいです。

自分の判断が曖昧

positive / negativeを聞かれているのに、自分の判断が曖昧なことがあります。

悪い例

This trend has both good points and bad points.

これだけでは、最終的にpositiveなのかnegativeなのか分かりません。

改善例

Although this trend has some disadvantages, I believe it is generally positive because it gives people more independence.

「両方ある」と書いてもよいですが、最終的にどちら寄りなのかを示しましょう。

質問の順番を無視して分かりにくくなる

必ずしも問題文の順番通りに書く必要はありません。

しかし、独学中は、質問の順番通りにBody Paragraphを作る方が安全です。

Body 2：Positive / Negative

にすると分かりやすいです。

Conclusionで片方しかまとめていない

Conclusionでも、できれば2つの質問に触れましょう。

これだけだと、理由のまとめがありません。

改善例

このConclusionでは、

の両方を短くまとめています。

Two-part Questionの書き方テンプレート

Two-part Questionは、次のテンプレートで練習できます。

Introduction

[テーマ] has become increasingly common in many countries. This trend is mainly caused by [理由1] and [理由2], and I believe it is generally [positive / negative] because [理由].

Two-part Questionの練習方法

独学でTwo-part Questionを練習するなら、次の流れがおすすめです。

Step 1. 質問を2つに分ける

まず、問題文を読んだら、質問を2つに分けます。

質問1：

なぜ起きているか

質問2：

positiveかnegativeか

この作業を最初にすると、答え漏れを防ぎやすくなります。

Step 2. それぞれに短く答える

次に、それぞれの質問に対して、短く答えを作ります。

質問1への答え：

質問2への答え：

基本的にはpositive。自由と自立につながるから

この時点で、2つの答えがそろっているか確認します。

Step 3. Body Paragraphごとの役割を決める

Two-part Questionでは、Body Paragraphごとの役割をはっきりさせることが大切です。

この構成にすると、読み手にとって分かりやすくなります。

Step 4. 具体例を用意する

それぞれのBody Paragraphに具体例を1つ用意します。

Body 1の例：

Body 2の例：

一人暮らしを通じてお金の管理や生活管理を学ぶ

具体例があると、回答が浅くなりにくいです。

Step 5. 4段落で書く

構成は次の通りです。

Conclusion

最初は時間を気にしすぎず、2つの質問に答えることを優先しましょう。

慣れてきたら、40分で書く練習に進みます。

Step 6. 添削を受ける

書いた後は、添削を受けます。

特に見るべきポイントは次の通りです。

• 2つの質問に両方答えているか
• 質問1と質問2が混ざっていないか
• 自分の判断が明確か
• 具体例が主張を支えているか
• Conclusionで両方に触れているか

Step 7. 同じ型でもう一度書く

添削後は、同じTwo-part Question型をもう一度書くのがおすすめです。

前回、

• 片方の質問にしか答えていなかった
• positive / negativeの判断が曖昧だった
• 理由と判断が混ざっていた
• Conclusionで片方しかまとめていなかった

と指摘されたなら、次の問題ではその点を意識して書きます。

6.5〜7.0を目指す人が意識したいこと

IELTS Task 2 Two-part Questionで6.5〜7.0を目指すなら、次の点を意識しましょう。

• 質問を2つに分ける
• それぞれに明確な答えを用意する
• Body Paragraphごとの役割を分ける
• 片方の質問だけ詳しく書きすぎない
• positive / negativeを聞かれたら判断を明確にする
• Conclusionでも2つの答えを短くまとめる

特に重要なのは、答え漏れを防ぐことです。

Two-part Questionでは、文法や語彙が良くても、片方の質問に答えていないとTask Responseが弱くなります。

Write LoopでTwo-part Questionを練習する

Two-part Questionは、2つの質問に答え漏れしないことが重要な問題タイプです。

ただし、独学では、自分が片方の質問にしか答えていないことに気づきにくい場合があります。
